From Bay News 9 – Examining the history of maternal mortality during Black Maternal Health Week
REACHUP was recently featured in a Bay News 9 report examining Black Maternal Health Week and the ongoing effort to address disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.
The story explores how today’s maternal health crisis is deeply rooted in historical and systemic inequities, while also highlighting the importance of community-based solutions that support families before, during, and after pregnancy.
As part of the segment, Our President/CEO Nicola Bailey shared our organization’s mission to eliminate preventable deaths among mothers and infants. “Our goal is to get that number to zero—zero preventable infant deaths and zero preventable maternal deaths,” Bailey said.
The report also spotlighted REACHUP’s GROWTH Doulas and MamaCareRising programs emphasizing the critical role doulas and maternal health specialists play in improving birth outcomes through education, advocacy, and continuous support.
