Kionna Pitts is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who serves as the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), a newly funded position for the Maternal Mortality Component at REACHUP, Inc. She delivers direct obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) clinical care services, within an OB/GYN outpatient clinic, focused on preventing maternal mortality and morbidity. Kionna provides supervision, consultation, education, and support to the Maternal Health Nurse Specialists, and Maternal Health Specialists serving the Maternal/Pregnancy Medical Home project of REACHUP, Inc. She formerly worked with the Strong Start Project and Maternal/Pregnancy Medical Home as a Maternal Health Nurse Specialist, and the federal Healthy Start Project as a Community Health Nurse. In both positions at REACHUP, Inc., Kionna worked directly with clients providing care coordination services that included risk screening, social/emotional support, and resources and referrals. For high risk clients, she provided education on chronic disease, pregnancy-related, and pregnancy-induced illnesses, assisted clients in medical treatment coordination and reinforced the plan of care as recommended from their healthcare provider. Kionna received her Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Florida, and her Master’s in Science of Nursing (MSN) degree with the concentration in Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile, Alabama. She is licensed to practice in the state of Florida as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) and earned her Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC) certification from the National Certification Corporation.
