What It Is

Nurse Family Partnership has been shown to be effective with 3 clinical trials over the last 30 years. These studies have shown that families who participate in the program do better: less drug and alcohol abuse, better employment for the moms and better performance in school by the kids.

Why nurses? Nurses are trusted and respected in communities. Nurses bring specialized healthcare knowledge and can spend time with their clients. Nurses are nonjudgmental and care for all types of clients and families.

Who It's For

Nurse Family Partnership is a free home visitation program for women having their first baby. If you enroll, a registered nurse will come and visit you throughout your pregnancy and continue to visit until your baby is 2 years old. You must meet the income requirements and live in Hillsborough County.

What You Receive

  • Improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good health practices, obtaining thorough prenatal care, improving nutrition and reducing the use of cigarettes, alcohol and illegal substances.
  • Improve child health and development by helping parents provide responsible and safe care for their children.
  • Improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family by helping parents develop a vision for their own future, plan future pregnancies, continue their education and find work.
